All data maintained by the city is considered public unless it falls into one of the below categories:
Data on individuals
- Private data
- Classified as private by statute, federal law, or temporary classification
- Can be given to
- Data subject
- Individuals within the city (city officials or employees) whose job requires access
- Outside agencies authorized by state or federal law to access data
- Entities or individuals given access with written direction by data subject
- Confidential data
- Classified as confidential by statute, federal law, or temporary classification
- Can be given to
- Individuals within the city (city officials or employees) whose job requires access
- Outside agencies authorized by state or federal law to access data
Data not on individuals
- Nonpublic data
- Can be given to the data subject if there is one
- Protected nonpublic data
- Cannot be given to anyone
